NETWORK DESIGN
I began with little idea of technical network elements and started at the top, as a founder of a digital television network that eventually went public. It was the first digital television channel and followed all the packet-switching principles of networks today. In following years for a number of reasons I designed and managed the installation of networks several times. I learned at the feet of some of the brightest engineers in networking. Most recently, I designed and developed Cal Pipe Industries LAN and WAN network, server and server room design, and VOIP installation.
Designing and building server rooms is an arcane and tricky proposition. There is no question this is a measure twice, cut once proposition. After a wide search for documentation on the step-by-step process I finally discovered an APC manual for building 'small' server rooms. It is slanted towards APC products but does a good job of covering all the other items needed in provisioning a dependable server room. It was a great help in planning and reporting to stakeholders. PROJECT MANAGEMENT
The MS Project management sheets below are for a project that involved moving Cal Pipe's corporate headquarters, installing and moving all services from the previous server installation into a new server room and onto a new primary server, and an included VOIP installation.
I began learning Project Management when I began game development in the mid-eighties and later taught project management software for CompUSA. Since then and before Cal Pipe I have used various project management tools and skills for projects at:
